We’re packing up and getting ready to head home, but it’s been a very nice visit to a new (for us) place. We spent time with friends, had some beach time, ate some good seafood and even got to see a rocket launch! I didn’t take any photos of the launch because it happened at 3 am and would have only showed an orange ball against a black background! But it was great to see, since it was the closest we’ve been to one (we’re about 30 miles from Kennedy Space Center).
I’ll have some more photos and stories once I get home and get the files into my computer. Processing photos on my tablet is a bit cumbersome. And takes away from my beach time!
Angles of a wall on a building at sunrise. Melbourne, FL
Sunrises without clouds can be boring, even at the beach. So after watching the sun come up into a clear sky, I happened to see this angle on the building and realized that it made for a pretty graphic image. Just another angle on sunrise!
Kathy and I are in Melbourne, FL enjoying a few days at the beach with our friends Jo Anne & Brent. I’m trying something a little different (for me) this trip and am planning to act like a tourist and take photos only with my phone. Took this on the beach before the occupants returned. Over-processed in Lightroom Mobile, which I suppose most tourists don’t do.
Morning on the beach. Carolina Beach, North Carolina
I turned the alarm off this morning and went back to sleep, but woke up 15 minutes later and knew what I had to do.
Once more it was worth the effort.

I managed to get my tripod feet (and my own feet) into the sand this morning!

Evening cloud formations. Carolina Beach, North Carolina
Kathy & I decided to escape from the neighborhood for a few days, and what better way to do that than a late-season trip to the beach? I haven’t done a lot of photography, but did manage to get in a little bit off our balcony on Monday evening, and I drug myself out of bed for a little work on Tuesday morning. Nothing spectacular, but a few frames to show for the effort.
Here are a few more bonus shots to show the ‘clouds’ theme:

Marina on Little Port Brook in Atlantic, North Carolina
I might have just as easily titled this post “A Week of Excuses.”
“Redneck (Y)acht Club”
Kathy & I have returned from our jaunt to the NC coast. I did a little bit of photography, but not nearly as much as I had intended. I came back with a few decent photographs, but since photography wasn’t really the main purpose of the trip, I’m not disappointed.
Fishing boats at a marina on Brooks Creek on Harker’s Island, North Carolina
– It was HOT and HUMID! The kind of humidity that makes your glasses (and camera lenses) steam up when you go outside, even at 7:00 in the morning! The low temperatures at night were in the low 80s, stretching to the upper 80s/low 90s during the day. I’m not a fan of heat, so that made it tough.

– I’ve been battling a recurring sore leg, which was not helped by walking on sand. So we limited our beach walking a bit which limited my photographic opportunities.

– Mostly we were spending time with family and friends and generally relaxing, so it was overall a good trip.
Now we have a few weeks to rest up for our next adventure. Coming soon!

Sunrise on the beach on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
When I awoke this morning at 4:50am I knew I was in for another morning on the beach. Sucks, don’t it? I was greeted by some distant lightning that I wasn’t able to capture adequately, but did get a few more pools reflecting the morning light. A little different from yesterday, but that’s why we go more than once! No promises for tomorrow, but I do have a streak going now.
Today marks the third anniversary of our retirement. I think we’ve spent our time well and look forward to many more years. We celebrated last night at one of our favorite local restaurants and look forward to a few more days on the beach.

Believe it or not, this is just the top 2-4 inches of drift fencing that is 3-ish feet high. I guess the fence is doing its job. No, I can’t stay away from these fences – must be some kind of addiction.
I found this guy on the beach at Cape Lookout State Park near Tillamook, Oregon. No idea what his story was but he looked lost. Maybe I should put his photo on a milk carton. Or a Snapple bottle….
