I managed to get my tripod feet (and my own feet) into the sand this morning! 😉

Up early always rewards. Super great stuff. I especially like the lifeguard station and the empty chairs… anticipation of the day ahead.
I can enjoy a leisurely start as much as the next person, but there is something about being at the beach that motivates me to get up. Probably being able to get up and walk out to the beach instead of hopping in the car to drive 30 minutes to an overlook crowded with photographers.
I do often find that having an interesting foreground element gives a little extra meaning to a photograph, especially at the beach where otherwise it is “just” sand-water-sky. I don’t always get that, but a chair, palm tree or (sometimes) a person can add that touch.
Yes, sand between the toes, a beautiful sunrise and the sound of the surf seem like a great way to start. However, it’s more than a 30 minute drive for me. So, I’ll need you to do more of this. I think number two is my favorite. Another very nice series.
Carolina Beach is about 4 hours from Charlotte, even farther to the Outer Banks. But it’s still closer than you are! I am often more inspired when the photographic opportunities are right outside my door. At the beach, or in towns like Mystic CT, Rockport MA or even Fort Collins, being able to stay in town makes all the difference for me. A motel by the interstate, as we used in many places, is another story.
