We were able to get tickets for a daytime walking tour of the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff. Highlights of our visit included looking at the sun through a solar telescope and visiting the building that houses the “Pluto Discovery Telescope.” I think I want to be an astronomer when I grow up. 🙂
Interesting story about the boxing glove. It was put there by a maintenance guy who kept hitting his head on the end of the counterweight.
I’ve only driven thru Flagstaff but I recall thinking if I ever moved to Arizona it would be Flagstaff. I enjoy northern AZ much more than the hotter south.
We drove through a small portion of downtown to get to the observatory, and it looked nice. Unfortunately the part we saw was under heavy road construction but we saw enough to make us want to return. At nearly 7,000 feet it was quite cool. Winters sound like they can be pretty harsh, though. Then again you are talking about relocating to Maine! 😉
