I did a postcard from Lake Placid a few weeks ago but wanted to share a few more of the photos. I know 25 seems like more than a few, but there are a lot of murals!
Small towns these days have to work hard to attract tourism, and these murals are a testament to the pride of the community and the hard work required to see the project to completion on such a grand scale. It was an enjoyable day, we had a good lunch and enjoyed a few hours walking around this pleasant town. Thanks to our friends Bill & Cathy for sharing it with us! 🙂
I have a number of “non-mural” photos too, and will save them to illustrate some future post.

The last image is a hoot!!!!! Love it and it didn’t seem like 25 images. Thanks for sharing especially since I may never visit there.
Had to be a trash can or a mail box because it is too small to be an outhouse! 🙂
I wonder what the story is behind this work. It is well done so whoever the artist is he/she/they know what they are doing.
I didn’t find a lot of background online and we (silly us) didn’t actually talk to anyone when we were there, but there are a couple of websites that give some background. According to http://www.muralsoflakeplacid.com/ the Lake Placid Mural Society was formed in 1992 for the purpose of beautifying the town. It would be interesting to know more about the backgrounds of the people who painted the murals. It may be available in a book that the society offers for sale. Our friends had the book but I never had a chance to look through it.
What a fun collection! I’m guessing they have a tour pamphlet to guide you to all of them.
Yes, there is a book that shows the locations and gives some background on both the artists and the themes. Our friends had one and I looked at it, but unfortunately didn’t buy my own copy. It would be good to have that background now!
