One of the highlights of our visit to Wisconsin was a cruise on Lake Geneva with our friends Jeff and Mary Pat. The cruise featured a look at the numerous “summer cottages” that surround the lake. They ain’t like any “cottages” I’ve ever seen, and would make a lot of the so-called “mansions” around Lake Norman look like guest houses.
I didn’t attempt to document them all, but I did take some photos of some of the most noteworthy ones. It was a nice cruise, a pleasant afternoon with fun people. Good weather and smooth sailing! 🙂
Nice! That *was* a “Big Fun” afternoon. And those houses – amazing what unadulterated wealth can do. In the next life, I’ll get into the chewing gum biz so I can have a compound like the Wrigleys do on Lake Geneva.
I didn’t post the photo, but there was one of the boat houses that Kathy & I thought looked like the perfect place! Would love to replicate it in some other place on the water that was more affordable.
Too bad there hasn’t been more demand for the Curtometer. I would have bet big money on that one! 😉
I am not sure if “half” the people live like this 😉 (referring to the title of the post 🙂 ) but gorgeous surroundings for sure. Not keen on the homes themselves but the blue of the lake against the green of the trees makes it look idyllic. Replace one of those homes with a little cabin, a small jetty out on the water and a small sailboat moored to it and I’d be happy to call it home 😉
The term “other half” is of course a figure of speech. More like the other 0.01% 😉
The surroundings are indeed beautiful, and I agree that a much more modest place would be just enough in that location.
I’ll follow up with a post about the place I would consider a bit more suitable. 🙂
Not my idea of the definition for cottage nor do any of them appeal to me. I also grinned when you referenced the other half.
I can’t imagine living anyplace that large, although the lake is beautiful!
