Today we’re having a pretty rare occurrence here in NC – a snow day! I won’t get into all the hyperbole about how we’re a bunch of weather wimps that don’t know how to drive in the snow, because everyone else has that covered. For me, I’m just glad I have a job that allows me to stay home and watch it out the window. There are few things more frustrating than having to make a decision about going to work. Although one of them would be being at work and having to make a decision about when to leave! Fortunately, Kathy & I both have computers that allow us to work from just about anywhere, and managers that are willing to let us. We have about 5 inches of snow on the ground here, and although the road in front of our house was plowed earlier, it’s going to be dicey going for a few days.
I seldom feel inclined to get out and take pictures in the snow, although once it is finished and the sun comes back out, I might decide to get out for a walk. I’ll admit to being a wimp when it comes to snow…why freeze my a$$ when I don’t have to! 🙂
This happened to make you appreciate not living in Ohio with us that has at least 10 inches right now and will last a bit longer than yours. It looks beautiful though.
Well, I’m glad we don’t get any more snow than we do, but I’d be okay if we never got any! Hope you guys are doing well, we’re making plans to be up your way in September. We’ll be in touch to talk about it soon.
Ha! Managers that “allow” you to work from home on a snow day! They want you to! 🙂 Being a WFH guy full time, the snow is immaterial, other than I’m not going to walk this morning seeing as how the sidewalks are ice and it’s 13 degrees! Forget that action! I may step outside and take a few shots of the backyard, but that’s as far as it goes, my friend!
I remember the good old days, pre-internet and VPN, of days off with pay when it snowed. Long gone! 🙂
At my last job I didn’t have a laptop, so I always had to make the decision. The two before that I did have a laptop, so I sort of got spoiled. That’s where the “allow” comment came from!
I agree with you that in the old days it was a bit easier. We just shut down like the rest of the world and stayed home! The problem with the bigger companies these days is that no one is willing to make that decision. I used to make my own decision, but that didn’t exactly endear me with the management. 😉
I’m staying home tomorrow too! There isn’t a lot of difference in my mind between a Winter Storm Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory!
That is a beautiful winter scene (from your backyard). When you guys get snow I always wonder how much equipment they have to deal with it as we do out here. Now that the snow has stopped we do have to deal with the accompanying cold.
Show removal is definitely the issue here, Monte. I like to joke that Mecklenburg County (where Charlotte is located) has a total of two plows. They likely have more than that, but not many more! And frequently we end up with freezing rain either under the snow, on top of the snow, or both, so that is particularly challenging.
This time it got cold enough that we actually had a powdery snow, and today I used my leaf blower to blow the snow off a portion of my patio so I could get my grill out. The sun melted all the snow off my driveway and front walk, but the patio is in the shade so it takes longer. I don’t even own a snow shovel, although I do have a couple of ice scrapers for the car!
It’s supposed to be 50 degrees on Friday and near 60 on Sunday. That’s a lot closer to what we’re used to!
