Kathy & I made another trip to Latta Nature Preserve this past weekend, and met our son Scott and grandson Edison there. Edison enjoys taking “nature walks” and we knew this would be a good place to take him.
Interestingly, the water levels were much higher this time, even though we really hadn’t had that much rain. I know that Duke Energy manages the lake levels along the Catawba River, so it likely had something to do with that.
It was a little chilly but the sun was shining and we had a nice visit. We then returned to the house for pizza and chips, so it was a good day all around!
Two things:
I love the way your grandson’s hair is nearly the same color as the leaves. Sweet.
The picture just under Edison’s portrait is just spectacular. It’s that sort of calming image that makes those walks so, so worth it.
Thank you, Jeff. Yes, Edison’s hair has a real red tint to it. We’re not sure exactly where it comes from, although my paternal grandfather had reddish hair as well as a few folks on his Mom’s side.
Interestingly, just a week earlier the waterline was almost out to the bird house, which is why we were so surprised when we got there this week. Parts of the trail, indeed some of the benches along the trails were actually surrounded by water.
It can be a very peaceful place, although it is typically pretty busy. Less so in cooler weather but there are a lot of folks out taking advantage of the nice weather while it lasts!
I agree on his hair of fall color. I also am taken by the blue sky and the water. Take advantage of the weather and head outdoors.
It was quite a nice day, and yes we are looking to take advantage of every nice day we are given.
