This is certainly not a new term in photography or even a new use for an old one. But it’s a way I’ve described some of the images I’ve made during our various travels. They aren’t people pictures and they aren’t (necessarily) historical landmarks, but it’s a way to describe the details that make up the greater part of the whole.
These are some of my “urban landscape” photos from our recent visit to Millersburg, OH.
Nice landscapes! For some this is the only landscapes they will see. I had a friend who was a New York City police officer tell me of a man on the streets who had never been more than 5 miles from his home during his entire 50 years. His landscapes were asphalt and concrete.
That’s an interesting story, Monte. I can’t imagine never getting more than 5 miles from home, but if that was the extent of your world and you didn’t know the difference, it would be OK.
I am, as you would know, a big fan of urban landscapes. I am also a fan of minimalism and your last shot fits both categories beautifully. Nice work Tom.
Thank you, Cedric. As you say, “cheers!”
Nice set of images. These details of the urban environment are interesting compositions.
Thank you, John!
Scenes many walk by each day without noticing…nice to see them featured here, because they are certainly worth noticing.
Thank you, Earl. You know that finding the scene within the scene is something I love to do!
Was great to see these live as well as posted. They look awesome!
Thanks! I’m glad we got the chance to do that!
