I thought I would try something a little different for this post. I don’t usually post a bunch of photos on my blog, but there’s no reason why I shouldn’t. These were taken Friday morning while wandering around downtown Charlotte with my Canon G12. I sure have a lot of fun with that little camera.

Excellent series of architectural images. With all the travel I’ve been doing the past four years, the city and it’s architecture has been easy access to me. I think it can help us develop an eye for lines, patterns, and textures. Well seen!
I notice you have a link to Bill Lea and wanted to share a story about him. A fellow photographer and I spent a week in the Smoky Mountains back in October of 2003. While waiting for the sunrise along Foothills Parkway we met Bill and enjoyed a conversation with him, along with the sunrise. He gave me his business card. If I’m not mistaken he was getting ready to lead a workshop and had come up a day or two early.
Isn’t that G12 a sweet little camera.
Hi Monte, thanks for the comments! I really enjoy exploring the buildings and all the shapes and angles, especially with great light and color like I found on Friday. Paul & I shot around the NASCAR Hall of Fame when I had the Holga lens on the 20D and while I really liked those images I wanted to return with a “regular” camera and the G12 does the trick. I’m not looking to replace it but I’m on a list for a Fuji X10 and am looking forward to getting one to play with. I really like the smaller cameras and they are so capable that every time I use one I get closer to deciding to sell all my heavy stuff.
Great story about Bill Lea. I’ve never done a workshop with him but have heard his presentations many times. I love his photography and he has been a real inspiration to me.
The G12 is a great tool, especially in the hands of someone with a great eye for composition and color. This is a really nice series.
Thanks, Ken. I appreciate your comments.
The rent-a-cops around town get nervous when they see what appears to be a serious camera but the G12 gives me great results and I look like a tourist.
These are really great images; I especially love the reflections in the water at the NASCAR Museum. How much do you post-process, or are these straight out of the camera?
Hi Chris and thanks. Most of my post-processing consists of a custom develop preset in Lightroom, and beyond that I may individually boost contrast and adjust white balance. It’s pretty much what the camera saw, or at least what I saw through the camera. The great color in this series is mostly a result of a great blue sky and clear air.
