Over And Out

Left It Like I Found It

Kathy & I finished up and walked away from work this past Friday.  After 40 years – banking for me and accounting for her – we decided that our time was more valuable than making more money and that we were ready to move on.

I keep waiting for that “OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE?” moment, but so far I’m amazed at how right it feels.  Of course we’ve just come off what would ordinarily have been a 3-day weekend, so maybe it will seem more “real” today.  But then we leave for Italy in just 4 days so there won’t be a lot of time to sit around and think about it.  Perhaps when we return home.

  1. Congrats to you both. I did the same late last year and still have those “what have I done” moments. I am not sure mine will be permanent given my age, but it is a break from the day to day grind for sure.

  2. Congratulations to you and Kathy! I look forward to reading about your adventures in Italy in the upcoming weeks. I have been enjoying all of your photography and blog posts thus far! Very very nice work : )

    Cheers!

  3. Congratulations to you both. Very exiting time for sure. My reaction would be more along the lines of “OMG WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?” but I guess a trip to Italy is an excellent start 🙂
So ciao and buon viaggio. Looking forward to the photos and stories.

    1. Interestingly, the most frequent question we get, and the hardest one to answer, is about what we’re going to do. The trip to Italy is a no-brainer, but beyond that it’s hard to predict. We obviously won’t spend all our time traveling, so what I’ve said is that we’re planning to “enjoy retirement” and whatever comes along with it.

  4. Well, congratulations to the both of you. I don’t see either of you regretting any of this, unless you regret not doing it earlier. There is much “to do” as Cedric commented. Have fun in Italy and expecting photos and stories.

    1. While it might have been nice to retire earlier, it just wasn’t practical to do so. We’re taking a bit of a chance financially retiring when we are, but we have a pretty good idea where the “bottom” is and feel pretty good about staying well above it. We’ll see!
